The United States is one of the largest producers of potatoes in the world.

The U.S. potato industry is significant and has both fresh and processing sectors.

In terms of potato production, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides annual estimates.

According to USDA data for the 2020 crop year, the United States produced approximately 431 million hundredweight (cwt) of potatoes.

This translates to roughly 21.6 billion pounds or 9.8 million metric tons of potatoes.

Assuming an average truckload capacity of 20 metric tons, 9.8 million metric tons of potatoes would require approximately 490,000 truckloads to transport.
